Contential Sport Tire Excellence
Ordered a 2011 Audi Q5 2.0T with Premium Plus and received it earlier last year. According to Audi, you cannot request a specific tire brand so whatever tires arrive on the car is what you get. Having had good past experience with Michelin, that was my preference. What I got was Contential's Cross Contact "SPORT" tires. I had read several reviews on Continentals' Cross Contact tires (Tire Rack) for which those reviews were not rated the highest. The side wall of any tire has a wealth of information so prior to taking delivery I confirmed that both Traction and Temperature were rated "A" for this tire. Additionally, the Treadwear rating by DOT was 480 which to me is quite good for a Sport performance tire. Having driven a little over 5,000 miles, I feel reasonably qualified to provide an evaluation. From what I have experienced, I find Contential's Sport Contact Tire to be superb. A Very smooth and quiet ride which absorbs road imperfections very well. As for the steering response, it's among the best I have experienced. The slightest movement of the steering wheel transmits to an instant response from the tires. You really have to be attentative in driving. Ditto for wet driving. Pushing these thru the on/off ramps is completely predictable with no feeling of tire flex or tire squeel. As for the snow, I haven't a clue as I've not been there nor do I intend to. Time will tell on the tread wear but from I can determine to date, it appears that Contential has a real winner with this tire
