Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 178reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bimmer 328i Driver I purchased this set of run-flat ContiPro Contact tires, as the OEM replacement for my '08 BMW 328i Sedan. The original set achieved 49K miles, which I thought was amazing. I drive mostly highway miles, with the remainder being local, in-traffic, fairly aggressive miles. However, this replacement set shows significantly more wear (at wear bar), at the 21K mile point. I feel like the useable tread life will likely run out, well before the 49K "bar" that had been set by the originals. The performance of the tire is better than average, with very good wet/ dry traction. Icy roads obviously offer a substantially greater challenge, leaving the tires as "so-so" performers. Braking distance is excellent on dry roads, and very good on wet. The performance, however, could also be greatly attributed to this car, in particular.Road noise levels are ok, but should/ could be better. I would not say that it's obnoxious, but I have had much better results from a non-run-flat tire. December 27, 2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by Very harsh ride and very noisy We own 2 Jaguar X-types, a 2003 with 16-inch wheels and a 2004 with 17 inchers, both cars purchased new and equipped with ProContacts. I know little technical information about tires, so simply have had my Jaguar dealer replace them with the same Conti ProContacts when required. We have homes on Cape Cod and in Sarasota and so drive in a variety of conditions. (I drive to New Hampshire to ski, and of course we have summer conditions in Florida.)The tires are just unbelievably noisy, the car with 17-inch wheels being by far the worst. (I notice others on this site complain of noise.) Moreover, the ride on the 17-inchers is very, very harsh. Any small pothole -- and there are lots on Cape Cod roads -- means a severe, stomach-turning jolt. So much so that I am finally learning all I can about tires and I intend to replace these at the first opportunity.I also happen to be an enthusiastic road biker, and give Conti high marks for their bike tires. It is unfortunate that they do not do better on auto tires. September 4, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Only works for certain cars. I think these tires works best for certain cars like BMW the E90 3-series, etc. I guess the auto and tire manufacture develops and tests the suspension together with this product. I had the Bridge Stones OEM Run Flat when I first got my BMW back in 06. They are trash after driven only for about 20,000miles, worn out almost, super noisy, feel like I was riding on rims only. Comparably, these Conti provide overall better handling, comfort, less road noise, regardless they are new or driven over 40,000miles. The tread wear is better than many other recommend OEM tires for BMWs with better pricing too. Traction is okay even for rainy days, and occasional trip on snow during the winters. That said, it may not be a good choice for other cars, say Honda Odyssey. They also required Run Flats, but may work better with other brands vice-versa, like those Bridge Stones. September 11, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst tires I ever owned Bought a 2009 Dodge Charger 2 years ago. At 500 miles I lost the first Continental ContiProContact tire when the sidewall blew out. I hit a 2 inch curb at 3 mph. The second tire failed at 10000 miles due to a rock penetrating the tread. (I have a gravel driveway.) I replaced both with tires of another brand). At 20000 miles the two remaing Continental tires have slow leaks and show premature wear at the inside shoulders. The tire shop won't repair them claiming they are "technically bald", and that they have "self sealing technology that makes punctures unrepairable".(While Continental does make such tires, I don't believe these tires have the feature, so I also have an issue with the tire shop).I don't drive abusively, and have not experienced such extreme fragility with other tires, including the "Not-continental" tires on two wheels of this care. Rated 4 out of 5 by 3rd Set on Car My 07 GTI came with these tires as OE, 50K on first set, 55K on second set. The 3rd set will be mounted on Friday. I stuck with the Conti's because they have served me well and figure that changing to another less expensive tire may prove to be a bad decision. Only issue I have is that they aren't the greatest in the snow so I have a set of winter tires to help with that matter. In the rain these tires are fine, including when they are at the end of tread life. I had to make an emergency stop in the rain when the first set had 45K on them and I was shocked that they didn't brake free on the wet road and the anti-lock brakes didn't even kick in. My experience is that some tires work great on some cars but poorly on others. My other car a 2000 Audi A4 has the same tire and they wear somewhat quicker but still perform very well. March 19, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good tread life, good tire, excellent value. I have these tires on a BMW 325Ci (OEM) and they have just over 40,000 miles on them. The rear tires will easily last another 10,000! Unfortunately both front tires have wear on the insides (possibly due to alignment issues but BMW's are notorious for this type of wear on the front tires due to the camber and the way the suspension is set up). These tires have been quiet, have handled well and with confidence in the rain and on dry pavement and have survived the awful SFO Bay Area roads for 6 years! (and I push my car HARD quite often). The street prices on these tires are ridiculously cheap, and even if a set only lasted three years they would be good value!I will replace my old tires with these again.... there is a good reason why BMW installs them as original equipment.PS. BMW does not recommend rotating tires. November 8, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 VW CC stock tire Tires were good for first 10k miles...then started making noise even though I exceeded the 10k rotation cycle by rotating every 5k.By 20k one pair were well worn and the others going fast. The car sounded like a truck with off-road tires at low speeds, and lots of vibration at hogher speeds. The VW service said they were all "chopped up" and they would let the Continental rep know.I told him I had the exact same thing happen on my Passat which I had right before the CC.I have not heard back from the VW service rep...so no I'm stuck riding these tires in this noise, horrible state for another 8k until my lease ends, and I can get rid of the car.I hope they last another 8k, as I am not going to buy new tires with less than 30k miles on a leased vehicle.Very unhappy with these tires on two VW cars.... August 29, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 If I had bought a Subaru I wouldn't blame the tire Have 4K OE miles on a new BMW 328 xDrive (2011 awd) w/17 inch wheels. BMW uses run flats (SSR). I wonder if this increased sidewall construction changes a tire as much as truck version is different from a auto version. For instance the Bridgestone Revo AT series on my other vehicle a Toyota LandcruierIn a 17 inch wheel size with a suspension that is tuned to the SSR might tires as planted on rails and no side roll. Live in the NM and drive a lot of narrow high mountain roads that I share in the summer with bikes. Never overdrive my line vision into the turns, even though the uphill acceleration brake system and tires are better what I can see. Experimented with controlled panic stops, straight on, no fade, worlds class stopping form 100 mph . Yeah we straight road too.All tires are a design compromise. In the winter I will deal with 6+ inches of fresh powder snow at 10,000 ft at the ski area and later at 7,000 in town and 50 degrees (F) or higher in winter. I?ll let you know on that & wear.I am always amazed that folks never read reviews or their cars owner?s manual. Don?t think Subaru has ever made a off road vehicle (truck frame). But isn?t the point of that purchase? July 30, 2012
